They say having one lazy day per week is good for health, now imagine being lazy all week. That’s a lot of healthy days don’t you think?

Well, laziness is actually a negative state of mind that reduces your ability to act lowering your energy.

To regain your vitality, here is a list of how to fight indolence and make the most of your day every day:

1- Use a Timer

Time is stressful, we all gonna agree with that. However, when it comes to completing your to-do list, a timer can be very helpful.

I easily stay active throughout the day after I bought a digital watch. I get a lot of things done efficiently.

You don’t have a digital watch? You can always use your phone, set a realistic amount of time, and get to work. Of course, only if you control yourself from checking emails.

Therefore, a watch is a lot handier and it worths the investment.

Cyril Northcote Parkinson says in one of his most famous books:

‘The amount of time one has to perform a task is the amount of time it will take to complete the task.’ - Parkinson’s Law

You’ll be surprised at how fast you can achieve your work.


2- Build a routine

Motivation doesn’t last, the good news is that you can always boost it.

Schedule some time for yourself and renew your routine, set new ambitions, and reset your goals... Preferably the short-term ones. 

To every task, add the right amount of time. You will end up with a list of actual fun activities that help you get more active.

Also, if you’re setting long-term goals, remember to set a plan B. This way, you won’t feel depressed or lost if plan A didn’t work.

If you are not used to routines, you can always start little by little, add one habit a day, and keep it simple.

3- Do it TODAY

The more you drag your tasks away, the harder it will get for you to accomplish them. No pressure.

We tend to wait until the last minute to complete the job, especially with school homework. Well, here I will leave you another extract from Parkinson’s law:

‘If you wait until the last minute, it only takes a minute to do.’

Also, Affirmations were shown to be extremely effective in programming the subconscious. 

In consequence, be careful with what you say to yourself.

If you say: ‘I’m too lazy to do this’ YOU WILL BE too lazy to do it, so be positive.

Don’t wait, the right time will never come, it’s just an excuse we got used to. Get up and do your thing as fast as you can.

4- Get some Fresh air

Who does not like the feeling of fresh air blowing in his face? It instantly wakes you up.

In 2020, the Coronavirus Pandemic led most countries to lockdown. People got more indolent staying at home, they had to do what they can with what they have to stay active.

With that being said, if you don’t have the time or the possibility to go outside, make sure your environment is ventilated enough. 

Oxygen has its impact on our mood. Many studies and mental wellness coaches are focusing on breathing recently since it was shown to be a lot more beneficial than we thought.

5- Stay as away as possible from social media

This is certainly the hardest part. Social media is literally getting you addicted. 

While you are connected, your brain makes reactions involving dopamine, a hormone of pleasure. That same reaction is produced in response to drugs.

The time flies on social media. Quitting it is definitely the healthiest decision you can make. 

I do understand though, that some of us are dependent on it, in some way or another. Then what you can do is avoiding distractions. 

If you can not fight the temptation, there are apps designed especially for keeping you focused for an interval of time by blocking notifications. AppBlock is a good example.

6- Sleep early

How can sleep help with laziness? you will say, Isn’t it lazy to sleep? Sure, and It’s okay if it’s at night.

Having enough sleep at the right time will recharge your energy, you will wake up the next morning completely refreshed.

7- Take supplements

There were days when I felt exhausted to the point I struggled for standing up. Later on, it appears I had anemia. Therefore, I had adequate treatment and felt revived a month later.

Even without deficiencies, multivitamins will boost your energy. Sometimes the cause comes from the interior, so make sure to keep it in mind.


To summarize, everyone has some lazy days, there's nothing to be serious about. 

In fact, laziness reduces stress and high blood pressure. It does become troublesome when it’s frequent, you will then need to take action.
