How can you deal with isolation? Know Answer

 You're alone at home, bored. Looking out that small window wishing you were out, up and going with your peers. Many people have been in this scenario, even I have been there. Yes, you're isolated. For one reason or the other you're in this state. It's mostly associated with loneliness. It seems you just can't get out, or have fun; or can you?


 Humans are highly social beings, so it's only normal to feel down when you're isolated from friends and family. But what can cause us to plunge into self isolation; either knowingly or unknowingly?

1. Health issues: A variety of illnesses can cause us to self isolate, for the purpose of disease control. Varying from deadly diseases and pandemics to small communicable diseases, you're adviced by your healthcare provider to self isolate.

2. Personal reasons: Many people, especially teens, just choose to isolate themselves from friends and family. They become withdrawn and loose trust in others.

3. Loss of loved ones: Losing a loved one causes deep emotional scars in people. Some, unfortunately, never get over the pain and end up plunging into self isolation.

4. Living alone: It is no strange phenomenon that people living alone often suffer from loneliness and isolation. Especially true, when they have little or no friends outside their homes.


 Whatever the cause for your isolation, you need to learn to deal with it_fast. Why? Isolation has been proven to have long and short term effects on the individuals affected by it. One major effect is stress. Stress on the other hand results in high blood pressure, heart diseases, drug abuse, anger issues, suicidal tendencies, and funny enough, diarrhoea.


 Now that you know the effect of stress on you, it's high time you get rid of it. But is it really possible to get rid of stress while being isolated? Well, yes. The following steps would make you feel a lot more relaxed and stress free, even when isolated.

1. Speaking to a trusted friend or family member: Talking to someone has been proven with numerous tests to greatly ease someone's tension. Many people have testified to this. Talking to someone about what is bothering you, making you to self isolate, can help significantly reduce your stress level. If you're a withdrawn person in your family, take the effort and pull out of your shell. Talk to someone you're close to in your home.

2. Artistry: If drawing and painting is your style, why not engage in it? Many artists can spend hours focusing on their drawings and paintings. Spending time to paint and draw can ease your mind, making you feel very relaxed. Get an inspiration, and start painting; you'd be surprised at the effect it has on your mind.

3. Planting: Yes! I said it_planting. Does it seem weird? Try it out. Watching your small seedlings sprout and grow has been a proven way to while away time. I remember taking care of my bean seedlings indoors, it was a very fun and nice project, with lasting effects of a calm mind.

4. Getting a pet: Any type will do. A Dog, Cat, Ferret, Rabbit; something fun to watch move around the house. When I just got my German Shepherd, I was always busy with her that I lost track of precious time. This is especially important for people living alone. Something with a degree of emotions that can light up your day; not to mention the activities you both can engage in together.

5. Playing board games: Chess, draft, scrabble, you name it. You'll agree with me that when playing these games, you actually loose track of time. Board games also have the ability to stimulate your brain so it doesn't get bored, leaving no space for stress.

6. Playing hard jigsaws, puzzles and legos: Very time consuming and especially great in family settings. Engaging in these can help you improve communication within your family and come out of your isolated nature. If you leave alone, you can always invite your neighbour next door( please don't invite someone over if you have a communicable disease).

7. Home workout and Yoga: My personal favourite:) Engaging in online or offline yoga and workout classes can greatly reduce your stress level. Yoga is designed to help you to relax by talking deep breaths while performing the Asanas. Working out also helps keep you fit and takes your mind off your loneliness.

8. Owning stress toys and games: Stress toys such as Fidgets are particularly designed to relieve stress in people. Downloading stress games on your device is also a splendid idea; but when stressed, you're adviced to limit your screen time and get physical.

9. Letting your pain out: This is especially for those who have lost a loved one in death. It's never easy for anyone. But it can bring about self isolation and stress, so it's still right to fight it. After a while, let your pain out. So it doesn't build into a dangerous feeling.


 Isolation is not beneficial for anyone; strong or weak, old or young. It only has negative effects on our bodies and minds. But most times we just have to be in that situation. When you do end up in this situation, always know what to do, so you can deal with it.
